Pirates? In this Day and Age?

I can't believe that I am even talking about pirates! I certainly thought the Age of Piracy was over long ago. With all of our modern technology in communications and weaponry I never thought that such an old-fashioned and unsophisticated criminal act on the open seas could still be used. It is, however, being used very successfully by these Somolian scoundrels. They are holding millions of dollars in ships and cargo waiting for their ransom demands to be met.
I can liken this to modern car-jackings and airplane hijackings. It just seems incredible to me that a huge ship can be taken hostage by hoodlums in a small skiff or speedboat.

A New Year

2009 AD is here! This is a long time since 1945, the year I was born. I just read that 10,000 people a day for the next 20 years will become eligible for Social Security benefits. The folk at the SSA will have job security for all that time.
How about that Texas/ Ohio State football game last night! A very dramatic finish with Texas scoring the winning touchdown with only 16 seconds to play.
I pray the Israeli/ Palestine war will end soon. Putting the politics aside, my concern is for the many innocent children who are being killed. "When will they ever learn?"
Like you, I am looking forward to the new president and his Administration. May the Lord be with President Barack Obama as he prepares to lead our great country. There are so many important issues to be dealt with. It is bewildering just thinking about where to begin. Let's see, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Israel/Palestine, Somalian pirates, Zimbabwe, Darfur, India/Pakistan,
Russian aggression and on and on. That is just on the international scene. Domestically there is the Economy, Health Care, Immigration, Criminal Justice reform and many other things to deal with. May God be with him as he addresses each of these problems.
